Water Filter Maintenance

WATER FILTER MAINTENANCE:

The frequency with which you change your filters is dependent upon the quality of your water. However, the bare MINIMUM that you should change your filters (all of them) is EVERY 6 MONTHS

It is mandatory that you charge/flush your new filters or you could severely damage all the equipment in your cafe. Follow the simple steps below

CHARGING / FLUSHING NEW FILTERS

Charging (or flushing) your new filters:

  1. Turn off espresso machine.
  1. Turn off incoming water - this is the line before the left of the coarse (white/clear) filter.
  1. There should be a hose leading from a "œcharging valve" (located somewhere in the center of the filter system between the incoming line and the outgoing line). This hose should lead either to your drain or to a bucket. Locate the charging valve knob.
  1. Turn the charging valve on - open it (usually done by turning it counter clockwise). The standing line pressure will cause water to flow out the tube and into the drain (or bucket - however, at this time your incoming water should be turned off so the only water flowing out should be what was left in the lines.
  1. At this time you may remove the old filter(s) and replace with new (lubing o-rings as necessary w/ Taylor Lube).

Incoming water should still be off charging valve still open.

  1. Turn incoming water back on, leave flowing for 10-15 minutes - this will cause water to flow from incoming line, through the filters and out the charge valve to the drain (or bucket) thoroughly flushing out all the sediment and charcoal particles which could contaminate the equipment in your cafe.
  1. After you have charged your filters for 10-15 minutes you may close the charging valve that will re-direct the flow to the equipment.
  1. Turn espresso machine back on.

Once you get the hang of it, this procedure should only take approx. 15-20 minutes depending on how long you charge your filters - do not neglect this process or you may be looking at 2 days worth of down-time due to contamination.
